Taiwan Tech Arena delivers strong report card

The Taiwan Tech Arena has helped incubate 1,069 startups and attract investment totaling NT$39.6 billion (US$1.29 billion) since its launch in 2018, the National Science and Technology Council said Aug. 29.

According to the NSTC, as of today, the Taipei City-based entity has helped new firms start business in sectors such as artificial intelligence, green energy, medical technology and semiconductors, connect 11 international incubators with startups in Taiwan and introduce the local firms to 290 key clients.

The initiative has also led more than 1,300 Taiwanese startups to take part in global events including Consumer Electronics Show in the U.S. and VivaTech in France, and helped them connect with more than 250 firms from nearly 40 countries and secure business valued at NT$4 billion.

These strong numbers reflect the success of the government initiative in fostering a local startup ecosystem and connecting it to international heavyweights to showcase Taiwan’s vibrant entrepreneurial development, the NSTC said.

This year, the NSTC is prioritizing matchmaking sessions between local firms and potential global partners; identifying key issues for firms seeking industry upgrades and introducing startup partners to promote digital transformation and sustainable development; attracting global startups to set up shop in Taiwan; and arranging for local ones to take part in major industry exhibitions.

The TTA aims to foster entrepreneurship and innovation by serving as a platform to connect technology, talent, market and capital. TTA South was subsequently launched in 2021 at the Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City in Tainan City. It focuses on the three sectors of smart tech, precision medicine, and clean & circular tech, offering Taiwan’s most comprehensive tech verification and demonstration sites.
