The decision of Thailand’s government to extend its visa waiver program for travelers from Taiwan is appreciated by the government and people, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said May 7.
 
The program, which grants a visa-free stay of up to 30 days to ROC (Taiwan) passport holders traveling to Thailand for tourism, will be extended to Nov. 11, the MOFA said. The ministry added that the decision comes days before the originally scheduled ending date for the deal, which launched in November 2023.
 
Thailand is not just one of the most popular destinations with travelers from Taiwan, it is also an important country to the New Southbound Policy, the MOFA said, adding that the Thai choice to extend its visa waiver program demonstrates that the NSP is paying dividends.
 
The MOFA said facilitating the overseas journeys of Taiwan nationals is one of its key tasks, adding that it will continue to seek visa waivers and similar measures with other countries to offer greater convenience to travelers.
 
A key element of the government’s national development strategy, the NSP aims to enhance agricultural, business, cultural, education, tourism and trade ties with Australia, New Zealand, the 10 Association of Southeast Asian Nations member states and six South Asian countries, the ministry said.
