The congressional certification of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as U.S. president and vice president, respectively, is warmly welcomed by the government and people of Taiwan, according the Presidential Office Jan. 7.
According to the PO, President Tsai Ing-wen anticipates Taiwan-U.S. relations will continue going from strength to strength under Biden’s leadership. She offers her best wishes to the American people, and expects the U.S. to remain a model of good governance and prosperous national development going forward, the PO said.
Tsai also thanks President Donald J. Trump and his administration for deepening ties between the two sides, as well as staunchly supporting Taiwan across a broad spectrum of areas, the PO added.
Taiwan and the U.S. are like-minded partners sharing values such as freedom and democracy, the PO said, adding that the two sides work closely together in the key fields of economy, politics and security.
Based on this solid foundation of cooperation, it is expected Taiwan will continue expanding exchanges with the U.S. for the benefit of the people while maintaining regional peace, stability and prosperity, the PO said.
